| FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS Q. How does the
E-Library services differ from the traditional university library?
As far as services are concerned, students and staff of UNITAR would enjoy the same
facilities, services and privileges that most traditional university libraries would
provide. In fact in UNITAR they get more with the added facilities and services provided
by the E-Library that is available anytime, anywhere, twenty four hours a day. In
line with our virtual university study mode, we aim to provide services and incorporate as
much as possible its contents in digital format.
Q. What
are the services provided?
Besides the basic services of libraries, users can gain
access to contents of books, journals, etc. and other services without actually coming to
the physical libraries. Services like requesting for materials, renewing loans, information
inquiries, etc. will be provided through the Web.
Q. How
would the services be provided?
We aim to deliver most of the services through the Web
and Internet which includes providing contents of books, journals, etc.
Q. Will
there be a place where I can go and refer to information resources and at the same time
study ?
Yes, the E-Library is supplemented by small
resource centres at our study centres distributed all over the country. These resource
centres will also house the traditional library. Students and staff can obtain various
services such as loans of materials in the physical format, etc. here.
Q. Who
can use the E-Library and the information resources centres?
Basically all registered users, including students and
staff can use these facilities for free. The E-Library can be used by anyone but
there would be certain restrictions as far as contents are concerned. As such interested
users have to register and obtain passwords to access.
Q. I
need reference books, journals, etc. How can I get to use them on the E-Library ?
Reference books like encyclopaedias, dictionaries would
be available to registered users of UNITAR via normal Internet browsers. We also subscribe
to many online full-text journals for our users. Only registered users with passwords can
access them.
Q. Would
the VL provide materials in multimedia format?
Yes, you can have access to a range of resources to
support your learning and teaching in the form of audio and video. Most of them would be
available on your desktop of your computers. The knowledge contents produced by UNITAR
including courseware will also be stored in the E-Library system. Access to these
would be limited to registered users. Due to bandwidth problems, of the normal telephone
lines, you may not necessarily obtain satisfactory viewing when dialing up from your
homes.
Q. What are the the opening hours of the University Library?
The University Library is open from 9:00 am to 6:30 pm from Monday to Friday
and 9:00 am to 4:30 pm on Saturday and Sunday. The library is closed during
Public Holiday. The E-Library will be available twenty four hours a day.
Q. If I
need assistance with using information resources, who can help me and how can I request
such help?
Trained and qualified information consultants will be
available in the information resource centres to help you or a group of students in this
respect. You can request to schedule a training session, get assistance with your problems
or ask for an appointment with these consultants by simply filling up the relevant forms
on this home page.
